Below is the software environment we plan to offer for this year's contest. We are moving to Linux, beacuse the ACM International Programming Contest plans to run Linux this year. Since our goal is to try to make the contest as much like International as possible, we are attempting to do the same.
Unfortunately, it is a complicated process for us. The systems you will be using have Windows installed on them. They must have Windows before the Contest and immediately after the contest. We are planning on using a bootable CD-ROM combined with local disk on the system to provide a useable Linux environment.
We have not accomplished this yet. We plan to keep going in this direction until the end of September. If we do not succeed, we will revert to last year's environment of Windows/IBM Visual Age. Check back here for the latest details.
Software that should be available:
Sound will be disabled. Local disk will be used for swap. /home for each team will be local. Console environment will be available. Systems will have 2-button mice.
We do have a good preliminary bootable CD working. We are on schedule for holding the contest on Linux!. Here is a preliminary list of RPMs that the system sill have installed. If we are missing something that you feel is essential, please drop us a note.
